Studio Colour
Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 16, 2026
Studio Colour runs in your browser and keeps your colours, palettes, and settings on your device. We don't track you, run analytics, or sell your data. The only personal data involved is what's needed to run a paid licence — your licence key and a device ID, checked with our payment provider LemonSqueezy — plus an optional backup to a cloud account you connect yourself — and your email address if you opt in to our newsletter.
What Studio Colour accesses
Studio Colour reads information from the page you're actively viewing — but only when you use a feature that needs it, like the eyedropper, palette extractor, or design-token export.
- The active page's styles — when you pick a colour, extract a palette, or export design tokens, the extension reads the page's colours and CSS to do it. This happens on-device, in the moment, only when you ask, and is never stored or sent to us. Studio Colour does not read pages in the background.
- Images you provide — if you drop in or paste the URL of an image, Studio Colour loads it only to read its colours.
- The pixel you pick — the eyedropper returns only the single colour value you click.
What we store — and where
Everything Studio Colour saves lives in your browser's local extension storage, on your device:
- Saved colours, palettes, and gradients
- Recently picked colours and extractions (history)
- Your preferences (colour formats, settings)
- If you activate Pro: your licence key and a locally-generated device identifier, so the extension can remember you're licensed
Uninstalling the extension removes it, and you can clear it any time from the extension's settings.
What we send
Studio Colour sends no analytics, usage data, or telemetry. There is no StudioGrid server that receives your colours, palettes, or browsing activity. Outbound network activity is limited to:
- Fetching an image you provide by URL, only to read its colours.
- Licence verification (Pro only) — when you activate, re-check, or deactivate Pro, the extension sends your licence key and a device name to a StudioGrid licence endpoint (
studio-licence.help-studiogrid.workers.dev), which passes them to LemonSqueezy's licence API to unlock features and enforce per-device limits. That endpoint caps how fast a key can be guessed, confirms the key belongs to this product, and keeps answering during a brief LemonSqueezy outage; for that it caches the LemonSqueezy result for up to 24 hours under a one-way hash of your key, and never logs or stores the key itself. If it cannot be reached, the extension falls back to calling LemonSqueezy directly. We do not receive or store your email — the email tied to your licence is the one you gave LemonSqueezy at checkout. This never happens for free users and is never tied to your browsing. - Optional cloud backup (Pro, off by default) — if you connect your own Google Drive or Dropbox, Studio Colour backs up your palettes to your account via that provider's sign-in. The backup goes to your account; our servers never receive it and we never see your cloud credentials.
- Optional newsletter sign-up (only if you ask) — if you enter your email in the optional "Studio Grid updates" field (the first-run welcome card or Settings) and submit it, the extension sends only that email address to a StudioGrid sign-up endpoint (
studiogrid-signups.help-studiogrid.workers.dev), which adds you to our email list (managed by Resend) for occasional product updates. This is entirely opt-in — leave the field blank and nothing is ever sent. Unsubscribe from any email, or email hello@studiogrid.io to be removed. - Uninstall feedback page (only if you remove the extension) — if you uninstall Studio Colour, your browser opens a short optional feedback page on a StudioGrid endpoint (
studiogrid-feedback.help-studiogrid.workers.dev/goodbye). No personal data is sent — the address carries only a marker naming the product (?ext=colour).
What we don't collect
Studio Colour does not collect, transmit, or sell any of the following:
- Analytics, usage tracking, or telemetry
- Your browsing history or the pages you visit
- Personal profiles or identifiers for advertising
There are no third-party trackers or ad networks in Studio Colour.
Permissions, and why we ask
Chrome requires extensions to declare permissions. Here's exactly what Studio Colour uses each one for:
- Access to web pages (all sites) + scripting — required so the colour picker and token extractor work on whatever page you choose to sample, and to fetch images you provide. Used only in response to your actions, never to track browsing.
- Side panel — to show the Studio Colour interface.
- Storage — to save your palettes and settings locally on your device.
- Identity — used only if you connect optional cloud backup, to sign in to your own Google Drive or Dropbox.
Studio Colour requests only what it needs to function. It does not run in the background or read pages you aren't actively working with.
Payments (Studio Colour Pro)
If you upgrade to Pro, payment is handled by LemonSqueezy, our merchant of record. To process your upgrade they collect your email address and payment details. StudioGrid never sees or stores your card information.
See LemonSqueezy's privacy policy for how they handle payment data.
Children
Studio Colour is a tool for designers and developers. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Legal basis
- Your licence key and device ID — processed to give you the product you paid for (performance of a contract).
- Your email address for the newsletter — only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- Feedback you send, and the optional note when you uninstall — only when you choose to send it (consent).
- Keeping the extension working and secure — our legitimate interest in running a functioning product.
How long we keep things
Licence key and activation record — for as long as your licence is active, plus whatever tax and accounting law requires. Held by Lemon Squeezy.
Feedback and uninstall notes — kept for 24 months, then deleted.
Newsletter email address — until you unsubscribe.
Your palettes, settings and history — these stay on your own device. We never receive them. If you turn on cloud backup they go to your Google Drive or Dropbox account, under your control — we can't see them and we don't hold a copy.
Your rights
If you're in the UK, EU or EEA, you have the right to ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you, and give you a copy
- correct anything that's wrong
- delete it
- restrict or object to how we use it
- send it to you, or another provider, in a portable format
- withdraw your consent at any time
Email hello@studiogrid.io and a real person will reply. We'll respond within one month. There's no charge and you don't need to give a reason.
To remove everything held on your device, uninstall the extension. To disconnect cloud backup, use Disconnect in the extension, or revoke access from your Google or Dropbox account settings.
Where your data goes
Studio Grid is run from Canada, and the services we use store data in the United States. That means your data is transferred outside the UK and EEA. Each provider below is covered by a data processing agreement with safeguards approved for those transfers.
- Hostinger — hosts our website. EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Cloudflare — runs our feedback and newsletter forms. EU–US Data Privacy Framework, plus EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Resend — sends our email. EU and UK Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Lemon Squeezy — payments and licence keys. EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
If you connect cloud backup, your data goes to your own Google Drive or Dropbox account. That's a connection you make to a service you already have — we don't receive it, and it isn't a transfer by us.
Complaints
If you think we've handled your data badly, please tell us first — hello@studiogrid.io — and we'll try to put it right.
You also have the right to complain to a data protection regulator. In the UK that's the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). In the EU or EEA it's the supervisory authority where you live or work.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be reflected in the extension's listing.
