Studio Fonts

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 3, 2026

The short version

Studio Fonts reads the fonts on a page only after you open it there, and your library syncs through your own Chrome account. Page content never leaves your browser. We don't run analytics, ads or tracking, and nothing you do in Studio Fonts is sent to Studio Grid.

  • What this policy covers

Studio Fonts is a browser extension made by Studio Grid (Marcos Eduardo Carranza). This policy covers what the extension reads, what it stores, and the few times it talks to a server.

    What the extension reads

When you inspect text, Studio Fonts reads that element's computed styles: font family, size, weight, line height, letter spacing and colour. To show where a font comes from, it reads the page's stylesheets and the list of font files the page downloaded. The System scan reads the same styles across the page. All of this happens in your browser, and only on a tab where you opened Studio Fonts. On Google Fonts and Adobe Fonts it also shows a "Save to Studio Fonts" button.

    What it stores

    • Saved fonts, collections, brand fonts and recent fonts are kept in your browser (chrome.storage.local) and in chrome.storage.sync, so they follow your Chrome account. Each saved font keeps the address of the page you saved it from, without any query string.
    • Usage counts for the monthly limits, and whether the panel is open in a tab, stay in your browser only. The open or closed state is cleared when you close the browser.
    • Your licence key (for Pro, when it launches) stays in your browser only and is never included in backups.

Backups, both the .studio file and cloud backup, contain only your library: saved fonts, collections and brand fonts. They never include your licence, cloud sign-in tokens or usage counts. Restoring a backup only adds fonts that aren't already in your library, and it never removes or replaces anything.

Uninstalling the extension deletes the local data. The synced copy stays in your Chrome account until you clear synced data.

    Sharing with other Studio extensions

If you also have other Studio Grid extensions installed, such as Studio Dash, they can ask Studio Fonts for the names of your saved fonts, the collection each one is in, its source (such as Google Fonts) and your brand fonts, so they can show them. They never receive the sites where you found a font, file links, uploaded font files or any keys. Only Studio Grid's own extensions, identified by their Chrome extension IDs, can ask. Websites can't.

When the extension contacts a server

    • Live preview, library specimens and PDF specimens request the font's stylesheet and font files from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com). Google sees your IP address, as it does on any website that uses Google Fonts.
    • "Download font file", "save font to Drive or Dropbox" and PDF specimens of self-hosted fonts request the font file the page already loads, from the site serving it, without your cookies.
    • Cloud backup and "save font to cloud" work only if you connect an account. Your library backup or the font file goes to your own Google Drive, where the extension can only reach the files it creates (the drive.file permission), or to your own Dropbox, where it can only reach its own app folder. Studio Grid never sees these files.
    • The newsletter, only if you subscribe, sends your email address to our signup service, which adds you to our mailing list on Resend. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
    • Pro licence activation and checks (when Pro launches) send your licence key and a device label such as "Mac · Chrome · fonts" to our licence proxy on Cloudflare, which forwards them to Lemon Squeezy. The proxy keeps a hashed copy of key and device for up to 24 hours to ride out outages, and it never logs keys.
    • Buying Pro (when it launches) happens on Lemon Squeezy's site. Lemon Squeezy is the merchant of record and handles payment and tax.

When you install Studio Fonts, it opens a welcome page on studiogrid.io with setup tips, and after a feature update it shows the release notes. When you uninstall, Chrome opens a short goodbye page on studiogrid.io with an optional survey. These are ordinary web pages, and the extension sends nothing to them beyond the extension name and version in the address.

    Google user data

Studio Fonts' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use Google Drive access only to save the backups and font files you ask for. We don't sell that data, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone.

    Permissions and why

Studio Fonts asks for access to http and https sites so it can open on the page you choose and fetch the font files you ask for. It uses storage for your library, scripting to open the panel and apply previews, a right-click menu item, and identity for signing in to your own Google Drive or Dropbox.

    What we don't do

We don't run analytics, ads or tracking in the extension, and we don't sell data. Nothing you do in Studio Fonts is sent to Studio Grid.

    Children

Studio Fonts isn't directed at children under 13.

    Changes to this policy
